Kotido, Uganda – Climate change has become a pressing concern in Kotido District, affecting livelihoods, agriculture, and overall well-being. In response, Nakere Rural Women Activists (NARWOA), in partnership with Mercy Corps and funded by the Austrian Development Cooperation, organized a three-day community meeting.
The event brought together stakeholders from Nakapelimoru, North Division, and Longaroe sub-counties to develop Gender-Transformative Community Climate Resilience Action Plans.
Facilitated by Adupa James, Project Manager for CCLAP, participants identified climate-related challenges and strategized adaptive measures.
“Climate change disproportionately affects women and girls,” emphasized Adupa James. “Our partnership empowers Kotido District residents to build resilience.”
Discussions centered around enhancing climate information dissemination, promoting climate-resilient agriculture, strengthening disaster preparedness, and fostering inclusive decision-making.
Nakidon Ruth, Mercy Corps Representative, stated, “We’re committed to supporting communities in addressing climate change. Kotido District’s resilience plan will serve as a model.”
The Austrian Development Cooperation’s funding highlights the importance of community-centered approaches. “Kotido District’s resilience plan embodies sustainable development,” noted a Cooperation representative.
This collaborative effort demonstrates Kotido District’s commitment to combating climate change.
The successful three-day event laid the groundwork for a climate-resilient future in Kotido District.
