Kotido, Uganda – In a bold move to revitalize the local economy, Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Charles Ichogor has urged stakeholders to harness tourism’s potential and prioritize accountability.
Speaking at a pivotal budget conference held at Caritas Hall, Ichogor emphasized the imperative of collective effort and technical expertise in driving sustainable economic growth.
“In order to move forward, we must work together,” Ichogor stressed. “Transparency and accountability are crucial in our pursuit of prosperity.”
Citing the alarming example of a sub-county garnering a mere UGX 27,000 in revenue, Ichogor instructed sub-county chiefs to publicly display funds on notice boards.
“This is unacceptable,” Ichogor said. “We must do better.”
The conference, convened to align stakeholders’ efforts towards common development goals, facilitated frank discussions on socioeconomic constraints, innovative revenue collection strategies, and judicious resource allocation.
Experts weighed in on the potential benefits of tourism, highlighting Kotido’s rich cultural heritage and breathtaking natural attractions.
“Tourism has the power to transform our economy,” noted one expert. “We must capitalize on this opportunity.”
Ichogor’s vision for Kotido’s transformation hinges on enhancing revenue collection through efficient tax systems and local economic empowerment, promoting tourism, and combating parental apathy towards education.
“By prioritizing these interconnected initiatives, we can break free from the shackles of poverty and propel ourselves towards prosperity,” Ichogor said.
Stakeholders expressed optimism about the district’s potential, citing Ichogor’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
“The RDC’s leadership has been refreshing,” said one stakeholder. “We’re eager to work together towards a brighter future.”
Ichogor extended gratitude to development partners and pledged to convene a follow-up meeting to assess progress.
The conference’s success underscores the power of collaborative leadership in driving socioeconomic progress.
As Kotido District embarks on this transformative journey, residents and stakeholders alike eagerly anticipate a brighter future.
