Police in Kumi District are investigating a tragic road accident in which a 53-year-old man lost his life.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 15th September 2024, at around 4:40 PM in Aterai Cell, South Division, Kumi Municipality, along the Kumi-Pallisa Road.
According to the East Kyoga police spokesperson, Edison Obukulem, the victim, identified as Paul Opus, a resident of Otipe Cell in Kumi Municipality, was knocked dead by a black Toyota Harrier, registration number UBH 153L.
The vehicle, driven by 52-year-old Gabriel Ogel from Katakwi District, was heading from Kumi to Pallisa when it struck Opus, who was allegedly crossing the road recklessly, as reported by witnesses.
Kumi Central Police Station responded promptly to the scene after the report was filed under reference number TAR 69/2024.
The vehicle involved has since been impounded and taken to Kanyum Police Station for further inspection, while the body of the deceased has been taken to Atutur Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.
Obukulem Edison appealed to the public to exercise caution when crossing roads.
