In a disturbing turn of events, a group of unidentified individuals launched a violent attack on Thursday night, March 28th, 2024, in Agule village, Agule Parish, Kumi SubCounty. The victims of this assault include Okuku James, along with two of his relatives, as well as several animals which were killed or injured in the onslaught.
Responding to the shocking incident, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kumi, Ahamada Washaki, visited the scene of the crime to assess the situation firsthand. Washaki took the opportunity to urge residents to refrain from resorting to vigilante justice in times of conflict.
“Uganda is a country governed under the rule of law,” emphasized Washaki. “Therefore, in cases of disagreement or disputes, individuals should seek resolution through legal channels, such as the courts.”
Washaki further emphasized the importance of utilizing available resources within the community to address conflicts peacefully. He encouraged residents to engage with Cultural Institutions, Religious leaders, and opinion leaders to help mediate disputes, rather than resorting to violence.
The local Police in Kumi swiftly responded to the incident, and suspects believed to be involved in the attack have been apprehended to aid in ongoing investigations.
As authorities work to unravel the motives behind this violent act, the message from the RDC remains clear: vigilantism has no place in a society governed by the rule of law. Residents are urged to uphold the principles of justice and seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts through established legal channels.
