The Kumam Ribere Students Association, which was founded in 1990, recently organized a joint graduation party in Kaberamaido District to honor 34 students who graduated from various courses at Kyambogo University and other institutions. The association, which currently has 98 registered members, has been instrumental in supporting Kumam students throughout their academic journeys.
During the event, the association’s Chairperson, Eyutu Emmanuel, highlighted achievements during his term of office. He noted that the association successfully organized educational retreats in 48 schools across five districts, focusing on academic empowerment, career guidance, and personal development. He said these efforts equipped participants with valuable skills and knowledge, leaving a profound impact on the community. Eyutu also welcomed 50 new Kumam students who recently joined the association, expressing pride in creating a supportive and inclusive environment for their development.
The Director of POPOW, Ringe Florence, encouraged the graduates to embrace every opportunity that comes their way, pledging to provide jerseys for both men and women as a gesture of encouragement.
Robert Epidu, representing Kaberamaido County Member of Parliament Hon. Alfred Edakasi Elalu, praised the graduates for their dedication to education. He emphasized the importance of spiritual wisdom, stating, “Knowing God is the beginning of wisdom.” Epidu also highlighted the significance of such initiatives in inspiring young people to aspire for higher education, describing it as a commendable move for the Kumam community.
A representative of His Royal Highness Won Ateker Patrick Edyelu, Minister for Higher Education in the Kumam Cultural Heritage, congratulated the graduates for their achievements. He reminded them that completing their studies is only the beginning of a lifelong journey. He urged them to be role models in society, emphasizing that their dress and public conduct should reflect their educational attainment.
The Guild President of Kyambogo University’s Soroti branch also addressed the gathering, applauding the hard work of the graduates. She urged parents to monitor their children during the festive season, citing concerns about students engaging in inappropriate behavior, such as changing into different clothing during travels.
The event was a proud moment for the Kumam community, blending cultural pride with academic success. The graduates were urged to continue striving for excellence and to use their education to make a meaningful impact on society.
