Lira District Woman MP, Hon. Agnes Auma, has announced that over 40,000 data cards will soon be distributed across the Lango sub-region as part of the Lango War Claimants Compensation Initiative. During a community gathering on October 27, 2024, in Ayac Ward, Amac Town Council, Auma informed residents that the initiative aims to ensure that eligible war claimants can easily access government services and compensation programs.
Auma’s announcement comes following her recent visit to the Ministry of Justice on October 25, alongside MP Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti of Kole North and Atedero Moses Ogwang Adongo. The MPs were assured that the necessary funds for the compensation initiative had been allocated by the government, reinforcing their commitment to seeing the process through.
“The distribution of these data cards is crucial because it provides residents with streamlined access to various government services,” Auma explained. “We are working to ensure an efficient distribution process so that every eligible individual receives a card.”
Beyond the data cards, Auma has continued her support for the community by distributing essential household items. At the same event, she provided over 1,989 aluminum saucepans to residents across ten villages in Ayac Ward, including Adwila, Akaidebe Central, Akaidebe Bar Opok, and Ariti. The saucepans, valued at over Shs. 45 million, were funded by Auma as part of her commitment to support households in her constituency. This distribution follows her September allocation of Shs. 60 million for projects in Ogur Subcounty, aimed at benefiting Apoka and Awala parishes.
Vice Chairperson of Lira District, Bonny Omara, praised Auma’s dedication, particularly for her work in Amac Town Council, which has brought visible benefits to the community. Additionally, Auma awarded a Shs. 5 million grant to the Ayac Women’s Catering Services Group in Amac, underscoring her commitment to empowering local businesses.
Julius Peter Okello, the chairperson of the women’s group, expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing the importance of collaborating with local leaders to drive community development. Residents Lilly Odongo and Margaret Aceng also extended their thanks to Auma for her contributions, pledging their support for her in the next parliamentary election.
“We are proud of your work, and we all promise to bring you back to Parliament,” they said, recognizing her dedication to serving the community and her efforts in improving the lives of residents across Lira District.
