ISINGIRO: Police in Nyamitsindo Parish, Isingiro District are investigating circumstances surrounding the heinous murder that has claimed the life of Mr. Byenyinemwe Ben, the 64-year-old Chairman of LCII.
The investigation into this gruesome act has led to the apprehension of four individuals, including members of the victim’s own family.
The incident took place on the night of October 22, 2023. At approximately 00:09 at midnight, the local police in Masha received a distressing report from Mr. Kato, the Defense Secretary of Nyamitsindo Parish, regarding the murder of their beloved Chairman.
Law enforcement officers, including the Police Canine Unit, rushed to the scene of the crime, which unveiled a horrifying sight. Mr. Byenyinemwe Ben’s lifeless body lay on his bed, drenched in his own blood, with a deep cut to his neck.
The victim’s wife, Kiconco Sylivia, who was present at the time, provided a chilling account of the events. She recounted that assailants had attacked her husband while she was in the store, and she only discovered three individuals leaving the house after the brutal assault on her husband. She alleged that the attackers, it appears, also turned on her before fleeing the scene.
The involvement of the Police Canine Unit added a new dimension to the investigation. The trained dog led officers to Nyakagyera cell in Kabingo sub-county, approximately 10 kilometers from the crime scene. The trail eventually pointed to the house of the victim’s son, Yebuuze Ronald, and then proceeded to the residence of a neighbor, Tukwatanise Moses.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the motive behind this horrifying crime may be domestic disputes within the family. Allegedly, tensions had arisen after the deceased Chairman married a second wife, creating irreparable divisions within the household.
According to Rwizi regional police spokesperson Samson Kasasira,the body of Mr. Byenyinemwe Ben has been transferred to the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations. Meanwhile, the four suspects are currently in police custody as they assist with the ongoing investigation
