Kaberamaido District Chief Magistrate Court has granted bail to Alwa Sub County LC3 Chairperson, Odongo John Ekongolat, and Sub County Chief, Eripu Emmanuel. The duo was accused of stealing a tricycle belonging to Alwa farmers.
Her Worship Patricia Ndagire set bail at 1.5 million shillings cash for each of the accused. The court also ordered them to report back on March 19 and instructed their securities to pay 5 million shillings each in non-cash form in case they fail to appear.
Ekongolat, who reported the case initially, became a suspect during the investigation. As the custodian of sub-county properties, the Sub County Chief was also implicated.
Both Ekongolat and Eripu denied the theft charges before the Chief Magistrate. The tricycle was allegedly sold to a scrap dealer in Dokolo District.
The case has sparked concerns about accountability and transparency in local governance. The community awaits the next court hearing to see how the case unfolds.
