Lira City has allocated 300 million shillings for the repair of faulty street lights in a strategic move to enhance security and curb crime. Robert Okello Ayo, the city’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed this initiative, explaining that better lighting will increase visibility, deter criminal activity, and create a safer environment for both residents and businesses.
“Upgrading our street lighting is crucial for public safety,” said Okello Ayo. “It will not only prevent crime but also improve the city’s overall security.”
This project is part of a larger strategy to address the growing security concerns in Lira, particularly in areas where poor lighting has contributed to an increase in crime. In addition to repairing street lights, Lira City is investing over 800 million shillings to revamp the Tipper Stage, a major transportation hub. The rehabilitation aims to modernize the area, improve public infrastructure, and boost business opportunities.
“The Tipper Stage project is essential for revitalizing the city’s economy and enhancing local businesses,” noted Okello Ayo. This development is part of a broader urban improvement initiative that includes upgrades to roads, markets, and public spaces.
Okello Ayo emphasized the importance of community involvement, urging residents to support and safeguard these projects. “Residents must stay vigilant and appreciate the ongoing improvements. Their participation is key to the city’s growth,” he added.
Lira’s leadership is optimistic that these initiatives will reduce crime, attract investments, and boost the local economy, ultimately improving the quality of life for its residents.
