Lira Diocese will make history on November 22nd with its first-ever celebration of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music. This milestone event will unite local musicians, community members, and artists for a day filled with music, prayer, and fundraising.
Rev. Father Deogratias Odwee, parish priest of Teboke Catholic Parish and chaplain to the diocesan choir, shared his excitement: “This is the first time we’re celebrating St. Cecilia in such a grand way. Music is central to our faith, and this event will showcase the talents of our choir members.”
The event will feature performances that blend traditional hymns and contemporary liturgical songs, highlighting Lira’s rich musical culture and community spirit.
A key component will be a fundraising initiative to support diocesan choirs, ensuring their sustainability and independence. Sam Otiti, Vice Chairperson of the Diocesan choir, emphasized, “The funds will help maintain our musical programs and empower choirs to continue contributing to the community’s spiritual and cultural life.”
Denis Okullu, Chairperson of the choir, noted that new music is being recorded for the occasion. “This celebration will highlight the growth and talent within our choirs, and we’re excited to debut our new pieces,” he said.
The inaugural St. Cecilia celebration promises to be an unforgettable event, laying the foundation for an annual tradition that blends faith, music, and communal spirit.
