Alebtong – Authorities in Alebtong district have launched a widespread manhunt for Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Acaye Moses, the officer in charge (OC) of the local police station. ASP Acaye is wanted in connection with a revenge attack and murder by shooting of Omona Simon, a 24-year-old resident of Lulayi village. The incident, which occurred on February 20, 2024, at approximately 11 am, has prompted a search operation led by the Territorial Police in the North West Nile region and Adjumani CPS.
Reports from authorities suggest that ASP Acaye Moses, who had been stationed at Alebtong district, left his assigned station and reported his presence at Apaa police station on February 20, 2024. His visit was purportedly intended to follow up on the investigation into the murder of his brother, Opio Emmanuel, who was reportedly killed by a mob on February 10, 2024. ASP Acaye was part of the team that responded to the Apaa trading center after one of the suspects in his brother’s case was spotted in the area.
Upon arrival at the trading center, ASP Acaye allegedly drew his pistol and fired at Omona Simon, the victim, who was rushed to a nearby clinic for medical attention. Unfortunately, Simon succumbed to his injuries and passed away following the shooting. ASP Acaye reportedly handed over his pistol for safe custody at Lacor Hospital police post on February 24, 2024, before disappearing.
The Uganda Police Force has condemned ASP Acaye Moses’ alleged abandonment of his sworn oath to uphold the sanctity of life, resulting in the loss of Simon’s life. The excessive use of force in this instance has led to what is described as a senseless murder, and authorities are urging ASP Acaye to surrender himself and present his defense.
The Uganda Police Force has extended its condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of the victim, acknowledging the pain caused by the actions of one of their own. They have pledged relentless efforts to ensure that ASP Acaye Moses is apprehended and brought to justice. The charges against him include murder and theft of a police motorcycle, and the force is determined to see a fair trial through the justice process.
As the manhunt intensifies, residents in Alebtong and surrounding areas are urged to cooperate with law enforcement authorities and report any sightings or information regarding ASP Acaye Moses’ whereabouts.
The Uganda Police Force remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served for the victims and their families.
