Kumi, Uganda – October 3, 2024.
A massive polio vaccination campaign is set to begin today in Kumi District, covering six sub-regions: Teso, Karamoja, Sebei, Bugisu, Bukedi, and Busoga. This urgent response follows the detection of a deadly polio virus in Mbale City.
The Ministry of Health has delivered vaccines to various health facilities, ensuring the campaign’s success. Parents and guardians from the specified sub-regions are urged to present their children under 5 years for vaccination, regardless of prior vaccination.
The campaign, running from October 3-6, 2024, aims to protect vulnerable children from the crippling effects of polio.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kumi, Ahamada Washaki, appealed to all parents to participate, ensuring their children’s safety.
This initiative would not be possible without the support of H.E. Gen. Yoweri T.K. Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, and the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who prioritize social-economic transformation and a secure future for Ugandans.
By participating in this campaign, communities can join forces to eradicate polio and safeguard the health and well-being of future generations.
