State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo, has challenged graduates to utilize their knowledge and skills to tackle real-world challenges and contribute to community development. Muyingo made this call during the sixth graduation ceremony of Lira University in Lira City West Division on Friday, January 17th, 2025.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Muyingo reminded the graduates that society expects them to leverage their education to drive development and address community issues. He emphasized that education should equip individuals to solve societal challenges ¹.
“The best way to prove what you have learned is through your actions and work. Go out and be good ambassadors of the education you received,” Muyingo advised. He also urged graduates to exhibit integrity, now that they are out of the institution.
Muyingo further appealed to parents to take responsibility for providing their children’s basic needs, particularly education, to ensure a better future. He noted that some parents hide behind poverty to shirk their responsibilities, contributing to issues like teenage pregnancy.
Meanwhile, Lira University Chancellor, Hon. Justice Dr. Benjamin Odoki, encouraged graduates to view graduation as the beginning of their professional journey, rather than the end of their education. “This graduation is a joyful moment, but it’s just the first step toward achieving your dreams,” Odoki said.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Jaspher Watson Ogwal Okeng advised graduates to adopt a Christian lifestyle and adhere to workplace rules to achieve success. A total of 581 graduates received their diplomas in various fields during the ceremony.
