Lamwo — Hon. Judith Nabakooba, Minister of Land and Urban Development, officially commissioned a series of major infrastructure projects in Lamwo Town Council. The projects, funded by the World Bank through the USMID additional funding for refugee-hosting districts, include a human resource center, 58 market stalls in Lagotopok, and the road from Palabek Kal Town Council to Lamwo Town Council. The total cost of these projects is UGX 10.9 billion.
The breakdown of the funding includes UGX 1.6 billion for the market stalls, UGX 6.4 billion for the road, and UGX 1.5 billion for the human resource center.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Nabakooba highlighted the importance of these developments. “These infrastructure projects are significant milestones for Lamwo District. They will enhance connectivity, boost economic activities, and provide better access to markets and services for both the local community and refugees,” she said.
The commissioning was attended by several key figures, including the Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Hon. Hilary Onek; LC5 Chairperson of Lamwo, Hon. Sisto Oyet Ocen; and Woman Member of Parliament for Lamwo District, Hon. Nancy Acora. They all expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the government’s efforts. “We thank the President for listening to the plea of the people and pushing the country forward towards economic improvement. This road, the market stalls, and the human resource center are all critical developments that will greatly benefit our communities,” stated RDC Lamwo, Mr. Ocheng Osborn Geoffrey, who attended with his security team.
The commissioning of these projects is expected to have a substantial impact on the local economy, improving transportation, access to essential services, and market opportunities.
