In celebration of belated Independence Day, the Minister of Teso Affairs, Kenneth Ongalo Obote, laid the foundation stone for Oriamo Seed Secondary School in Kaberamaido District. The event, held in Oriamo Subcounty, saw Ongalo as the chief guest, where he spoke on the progress of educational infrastructure in Teso, highlighting that 15 secondary schools have been built under the Office of the Prime Minister. Ongalo commended the progress but cautioned the contractor to maintain high standards and encouraged community support for the project’s success.
Alfred Elalu Olale Edakasi, the Member of Parliament for Kaberamaido County, praised President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s support for education in the district. In just three years, three secondary schools have been built in Aperkira, Alwa, and Oriamo, with another underway in Swagere. He called upon parents to send their children to school, stating that without students, the facilities would lack purpose. Elalu further urged the community to re-elect President Museveni and the NRM MPs in 2026 to ensure continuity of development initiatives.
Victor Rex Ekesu, a local leader, also acknowledged the government’s rapid educational progress, made possible through President Museveni’s administration and the MPs’ commitment. Ekesu highlighted the strong teamwork that has spurred Kaberamaido’s growth and thanked the Atek Otola clan for donating the six hectares of land for the school.
According to Kaberamaido District Education Officer Richard Elyebu, 2.4 billion shillings has been allocated to the project from the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfer (UGIFT) Program. Sanitation African Limited will oversee construction, with 2.3 billion shillings dedicated to building structures and 100 million for ICT equipment, including computers and laboratory tools. Elyebu expressed optimism that Oriamo Seed School will raise the standard of education in the area and ease long travel distances for students.
