Kotido, Uganda – In a bid to uplift young girls in the Karamoja region, Miss Tourism 1st Runner-Up, Natyang Anastashia, has launched an empowerment initiative aimed at addressing the pressing challenges faced by girls in the area.
The project, which focuses on education, economic empowerment, health support, and community engagement, seeks to combat issues such as poverty, limited access to education, early marriage, gender-based violence, and restrictive cultural norms.
Speaking during an interview about the initiative, Natyang emphasized the importance of investing in girls as a means of fostering sustainable development in the region.
“Many young girls in Karamoja face hardships that limit their potential. Through this initiative, we aim to create opportunities for them to access education, vocational training, and mentorship, enabling them to break free from societal barriers and build a brighter future,” she said.
The initiative includes:
✅ Educational Support – Providing school materials, scholarships, and mentorship programs to encourage girls to stay in school.
✅ Economic Empowerment – Training young girls in vocational skills such as tailoring, beadwork, and entrepreneurship to help them become financially independent.
✅ Health & Well-being – Raising awareness on menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, and access to healthcare services.
✅ Community Engagement – Working with local leaders and parents to challenge harmful cultural practices such as early marriage and promote gender equality.
Local leaders and stakeholders have welcomed Atyang’s initiative, recognizing it as a much-needed intervention in the region.
“Girls in Karamoja have immense potential, but they need support to overcome challenges. This program is a step in the right direction,” said a community elder.
As a proud representative of Uganda’s tourism and culture, Atyang Anastashia hopes that her efforts will inspire more young girls to pursue their dreams and contribute to the development of their communities.
This initiative marks a significant step toward empowering Karamoja’s girls, proving that with the right support, they can rise above limitations and shape their own destinies.
