Residents of Obira Village in Katinge Parish, Kobulubulu Sub-county, Kaberamaido District, mobbed and killed a suspected criminal accused of stealing two turkeys. The District Police Commander, SP David Otabong, confirmed that Elyanu David, also known as Opendo, was killed in the early hours of Friday, around 4 a.m.
According to the police, the incident occurred on November 22, 2024. Elyanu, in the company of an unidentified accomplice, allegedly attempted to steal turkeys and goats from the home of Adele Edina, a 30-year-old resident of Obira Village. The two were reportedly breaking into a storage unit when Eciru Emmanuel, Adele’s son, heard the commotion and came out to investigate.
Upon discovering the intruders, Eciru raised an alarm, attracting neighbors to the scene. While one of the suspects escaped with a turkey, Elyanu was caught and fatally assaulted by the mob.
SP Otabong stated that the police had visited the crime scene, recorded necessary statements, and collected exhibits, including a turkey, a flashlight, black sweatpants resembling private security uniforms, and a large stick. The body of the deceased has been taken to Kaberamaido General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
One suspect, identified as Majidi Edopa, has been arrested to aid in investigations. SP Otabong warned the public against taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that such actions constitute serious offenses.
The case has been registered under CRB 38/2024 as “Murder by Mob.”
