The Soroti City Woman Member of Parliament, Hon Joan Alobo Acom has been duly appointed to her new position as Shadow Cabinet Minister of Cooperatives and Microfinance.
The FDC’s iron lady after being sworn in, declared her intent in championing the amelioration of cooperatives and Microfinance in the country as a whole.
”Cooperatives play a crucial role in tailoring economic empowerment and community development, the government needs to create an environment where cooperatives can thrive, empowering local communities and contributing to the overall growth of the entire Uganda”, Hon Alobo echoed in her speech.
Adding, “I pledge to advocate for policies that promote financial inclusion, ensuring that these communities have the necessary support and resources to uplift themselves economically”.
Uganda as a country is confronted with grappling challenges in reviving the cooperatives and access to microfinance services by the rural communities.
It is worth noting that on the 1st August 2023, Government inaugurated the committee to steer the revival of the cooperative bank.
The committee was initiated to work towards successfully establishing and operationalizing the national cooperative bank, however pressure from the opposition legislators impelled Government to expedite the process.
Hon Alobo is among the outstanding vocal leaders in the plenary house, and the opposition definitely has no doubt in her expectations.
