The community of Odoot A village in Kaberamaido Sub County has finally gotten some respite from their long-standing water shortage problem. The area Member of Parliament, Hon. Edakasi Alfred Elalau, has handed over a new borehole to the community, bringing joy and relief to the residents.
According to Mr. Elapu Denis, the Vice Chairperson of Odoot Village, the community had been struggling to access clean water, forcing them to trek 3 kilometers to neighboring villages like Aguroi. With a population of 850 people and 150 households, the village has been in dire need of a reliable water source. Denis expressed gratitude to Hon. Elalau for his timely intervention, saying, “These are the kind of leaders we need to vote for.”
The residents of Odoot A village, particularly the women, have welcomed the new borehole with open arms. Ms. Grace Ibano, a 52-year-old resident, thanked Hon. Elalau for his kindness, saying that the borehole has reduced the distance and waiting time for water. Ms. Margaret Ilwoko also expressed her gratitude, noting that women are the primary users of water and would greatly benefit from the new borehole. She promised to help safeguard the water source from damage.
In his remarks, Hon. Edakasi Alfred Elalau cautioned the community to take good care of the borehole and protect it from damage. He advised them to establish a collection system to fund repairs in case of breakdowns, emphasizing that the community should take full responsibility and ownership of the water source. The MP noted that this gesture is part of his service delivery to the people of Kaberamaido County.
Hon. Elalau was accompanied by friends from the USA, who promised additional support in the areas of health and water in Kaberamaido. The community has expressed their appreciation for the MP’s efforts and pledged to make good use of the new borehole.
