Member of Parliament for Usuk County and Chairperson of the Teso Parliamentary Group, Hon. Bosco Okiror, has called upon Muslims to maintain their commitment to Islamic principles even after the conclusion of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
“As we celebrate Eid al Fitr, I extend warm wishes to my dear Muslim brothers and sisters,” stated Hon. Okiror. “I urge you to continue embodying the virtues and behaviors exemplified during Ramadan.”
Highlighting the importance of unity and peace within Muslim communities, Hon. Okiror urged adherence to values such as love, nonviolence, and the rejection of sectarianism. “Promoting peace begins within our homes and neighborhoods,” he emphasized.
Additionally, the MP stressed the significance of education and hard work, particularly among Muslim youth, as essential pathways to sustainable development. He commended efforts to establish an Islamic bank in alignment with Sharia law, attributing this achievement to President Yoweri Museveni’s support and commitment to the Muslim community.
Encouraging economic empowerment, Hon. Okiror encouraged Muslims to leverage the Islamic banking system to initiate and grow businesses, thereby enhancing household incomes and financial stability.
Beyond socioeconomic matters, the MP underscored the importance of environmental conservation. He urged Muslims to seize the opportunity presented by the rainy season to plant trees, citing their dual benefits of income generation and climate change mitigation.
“Incorporating tree planting into Eid celebrations not only contributes to environmental sustainability but also addresses the challenges posed by climate change,” affirmed Hon. Okiror.
In conclusion, the Member of Parliament reiterated his call for sustained dedication to Islamic values, emphasizing the significance of continuity in practicing good deeds beyond the confines of Ramadan.
