Kumi Municipality – From the dusty streets of Kumi to the vibrant stages of Kampala, Okello Julius, better known as Clever Spider, has led a life that reads like a modern-day fairy tale. Orphaned in the early 90s, his journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of dreams.

Raised by his elder brother, Francis Arikod, after losing both parents by 1992, Aka started his education at Wiggins Primary School. Life’s hardships soon pushed him to Kampala, where he worked with marwa brewers (ajon). It was here that fate smiled on him—a benevolent old man sponsored his return to school, allowing Mr Okello Julius to complete his O-level and A-level education.

In 2006, while at Kyambogo University, Julius’ musical talents blossomed. Recognized by the legendary Dr Jose Chameleon, he became a rising star in Uganda’s music scene. But Mr Okello’s heart always beat for his roots. Teaming up with Davido Spider, he founded Emirates Music Studio in Angopet Ward, Kumi. The studio transformed the local music scene, introducing the infectious Afrobeat to Teso.

Despite his musical success, Mr Okello never stopped learning. He earned a bachelor’s degree in ICT and went on to become a lecturer at Soroti University. His ICT workshops in Kumi and Kampala are now incubators for tech innovation, empowering the youth with crucial digital skills. As Mr Okello steps into the political arena in Kumi municipality, he aims to champion two key roles of a mayor: fostering youth empowerment and driving cultural and economic development. By leveraging his background in ICT and music, he plans to implement programs that provide education, vocational training, and career opportunities for the youth, ensuring they have the tools needed for success. Additionally, he envisions promoting local artists and entrepreneurs to create a vibrant community where culture and commerce thrive, thereby making Kumi Municipality a tale of cultural richness and economic resilience.

From orphaned hustler to music mogul and now aspiring politician, Mr Okello Julius is a living legend whose story inspires a generation. His journey underscores the incredible potential within us all to overcome adversity and make a lasting impact in Kumi municipality.
