Maracha District โ In a significant move towards promoting sports and youth engagement, Mr. Uhuru Nelson, the Maracha Constituency MP Aspirant for 2026 to 2031, has launched the distribution of 62 footballs and 8 trophies across 31 parishes in the Maracha District. This initiative spans 8 Sub-counties within the Maracha Constituency.
The distribution, which commenced on Thursday, 22 August 2024, included parishes in Awiziru Sub-county, Okokoro Town Council, Kijomoro Sub-county, Ovujo Town Council, and Oluvu Sub-county. The remaining parishes in Obiba Sub-county, Agaii Town Council, and Oluffe Sub-county are set to receive their share by Friday, 23 August 2024.
During the event, Mr. Drapari Matendo, Captain of Talia United Football Club from Awiziru Sub-county, delivered a rousing speech that was met with applause. He criticized the agents and coordinators of various politicians for obstructing the community’s efforts to lobby for necessary support. Mr. Matendo emphasized the importance of politicians responding to the needs and challenges faced by the local community.
Hon. Mungueconi Gilbert, the LC3 Chairman for Okokoro Town Council, called on the youth to actively participate in sports as a means to maintain their health and prevent lifestyle-related diseases. He highlighted the importance of regular physical exercise in promoting overall well-being.
Expressing his gratitude, Adriko William, a football player from Nyamio Parish in Oluvu Sub-county, acknowledged Mr. Uhuru Nelson’s support, noting that no other politician or well-wisher had previously extended such assistance to their parish for sporting activities.
Mr. Uhuru Nelson, the NRM Partyโs MP aspirant, urged the youth to view football not just as a pastime but as a potential avenue for talent identification and development. He encouraged the beneficiaries to engage in socio-economic transformation activities, balancing these with their involvement in sports to help alleviate poverty in their homes.
