President Yoweri Kaguta has assured the people of Acholi Sub-Region that the government is committed to decisively solving the Apaa land conflict between the Madi tribe of the Adjumani and Acholi of Amuru.
Museveni while speaking in Gulu city on Saturday during the closure of a 3 day prayer gathering code named “light up Acholi land crusade” hosted by Pastor Patience Rwabwogo, the senior Pastor of the Covenant Nations. The President’s assurance came after the Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister in-charge of Northern Uganda , Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny pleaded with the Head of State to help end the Apaa land conflict.
Her plea followed a recent attack that led to the alleged killing of four people, disappearance of six others and burning of over 30 huts.
In response, President Museveni told the gathering that there are some political leaders who are said to be escalating the issues of Apaa land .
“It doesn’t matter where the boundary is; whether in Acholi, Adjumani or Moyo. The constitution allows Ugandans to live anywhere. We will review the colonial map of the area,” Museveni said.
Museveni noted that the government had already established a Commission of Inquiry that is going to investigate the details of the matter in Apaa. He also promised to give a report on the conflict.
He said those who are fueling the tension, inciting violence and masterminding the plot to kill and cause unrest will be brought to book and punished severely.
“Those who are causing trouble really do not see far. There is no way you will cause trouble and escape us,” said Museveni.
President Museveni also elaborated that the Commission is going to start work with immediate effect so us to solve the wrangle once and for all.
In conclusion, Museveni also offered two tractors to the born again Christians in Acholi Sub-region to support commercial farming.
“I will give you two tractors for now so that you fully follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” said Museveni.
