President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni cautioned Ugandans against laziness, emphasizing that it’s a major obstacle to eradicating poverty. He made these remarks during his countryside tour in Kole District, where he interacted with beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM).
Museveni encouraged Ugandans to adopt the PDM, which he believes has the potential to transform households and eradicate poverty. He noted that while some Ugandans have made significant progress through the PDM, many others have become spectators, failing to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the program.
The President also announced a donation of 15 million shillings to support the PDM beneficiaries. Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, the Government’s Chief Whip, emphasized that Museveni’s visit to Lango should dispel any doubts about the program, and urged Ugandans to embrace all six wealth creation initiatives, including Operation Wealth Creation, UWEP, and Youth Livelihood Program, among others.
The Right Rev. Bishop Alfred Olwa, a farmer and PDM beneficiary, praised the program, saying it has the potential to kick off poverty in Uganda. However, he urged the government to focus on changing the mindset of citizens to ensure the program’s success.
Rose Akoi, another PDM beneficiary, testified to the program’s impact, saying it has greatly improved her household income. She pledged her support to Museveni and the NRM party in the forthcoming elections.
The government has invested over 2.4 trillion shillings in the Parish Development Model, demonstrating its commitment to eradicating poverty in Uganda.
