Special Presidential Assistant Angolere Caroline, alongside NRM cadres Calvin Echodu, Peter Edoku, and Solomon Ossiya, spearheaded a donation initiative aimed at transforming the lives of reformed warriors in Karamoja. The event, held at Naitakwae Ceremonial Grounds in Moroto, was also a Karachuna Baraza attended by over 1,000 reformed warriors under the theme “Embracing Peace as a Tool for Unlocking a Brighter Future for Karamoja”
The donation, which included ox-ploughs, iron sheets, and financial contributions to SACCOS to boost income-generating activities, is designed to help former warriors transition into agriculture and self-sustaining enterprises. This effort aligns with the government’s broader commitment to fostering socio-economic development in Karamoja, a region historically affected by cattle rustling and insecurity.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, SPA/PA Angolere Caroline emphasized the importance of equipping reformed warriors with practical tools to support their livelihoods. She reiterated that economic empowerment is key to ensuring long-term peace and stability in the region. She stated that this initiative is not just about donating tools but about giving people the means to build a future. By engaging in productive farming and entrepreneurship, these young men can move away from their past and contribute positively to their communities. She further encouraged the beneficiaries to embrace this opportunity and utilize the resources effectively to uplift themselves and their families.
NRM cadre Calvin Echodu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering economic transformation in Karamoja. He noted that sustainable peace is built on economic empowerment and that by providing these agricultural tools and financial assistance, a foundation is being created for self-reliance and stability in the region. Peter Edoku echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of initiatives that encourage self-sufficiency rather than dependence on aid. He stated that this donation is not just about short-term relief but about building long-term resilience, urging the beneficiaries to take full advantage of this opportunity and work towards financial independence. Solomon Ossiya also commended the initiative, calling on local leaders and community members to continue supporting the reformed warriors. He stressed that successful reintegration requires collective effort and that all stakeholders must work together to ensure these young men have the support they need to sustain their new way of life.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, pledging to use the donations effectively. Many have already started farming, while others are exploring alternative businesses to improve their livelihoods. One recipient, Namoe Peter Ebokot from Panyangara sub- County in Kotido district, shared his optimism, stating that for years they lived by the gun, but today they have been given tools to work for their families. He added that this support gives them hope that they can build a better future.
This donation drive is part of the government’s broader efforts to promote peace and economic development in Karamoja. By equipping reformed warriors with the tools and resources needed for sustainable livelihoods, the initiative aims to break the cycle of violence and poverty, paving the way for lasting stability in the region. The Karachuna Baraza not only served as a platform for the donation but also as a reaffirmation of the commitment to peace, demonstrating that former warriors can become productive members of society when given the right opportunities
