Muslim leaders in Maracha District have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Driwaru Jennifer, the Woman MP for Maracha District, following her generous donation of cash and materials to aid the newly formed Maracha Muslim District.
The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council recently created this district, but its operations have faced significant challenges due to the absence of a proper headquarters from which to coordinate religious and administrative affairs.
On Thursday, 27th March 2025, Hon. Driwaru Jennifer made a significant contribution to the Maracha Muslim District union, offering UGX 3 million out of the UGX 5 million that the Muslim community had been lobbying for from the public.
This financial assistance will go a long way in helping with the registration and mapping process of the new district.
In addition to the monetary donation, Hon. Driwaru Jennifer provided 200 kanzus (traditional Muslim robes), 200 kilograms of rice, carpets, and iron sheets intended for roofing mosques in Maracha District.
These items were received with great appreciation by the Muslim community, who have been in need of support to further their religious activities and improve the infrastructure of their places of worship.
While delivering her donations, Hon. Driwaru Jennifer emphasized that, as a leader, it is her duty not only to lobby for resources but also to act as a bridge between her community and relevant authorities.
She stressed the importance of bringing services closer to the people of Maracha District, including those in the Muslim community.
“Maracha Muslim District has been long overdue, as people want their services near,” she stated, adding that her contributions come from her deep sense of humanity and love for the people she serves.
The Secretary for Maracha Muslim District, Apale Abdallah Aziz, expressed his gratitude for Hon. Jennifer’s continued support, recalling several instances where she had helped the Muslim community.
Apale highlighted the key role she played in lobbying for the establishment of Maracha Muslim District by the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, a move that has been welcomed with joy by local Muslims.
Collins Dramani, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Maracha District, also lauded Hon. Driwaru Jennifer’s efforts, noting that the formalization of Maracha Muslim District will improve coordination between the Muslim community and the government.
Dramani encouraged religious leaders to mobilize their congregants in both churches and mosques to embrace government programs aimed at socioeconomic transformation.
This gesture by Hon. Driwaru Jennifer is part of her broader effort to support various religious communities in Maracha District, including Protestants and Catholics.
