The Nabilatuk District Chairperson Lokol Paul has taken a decisive stance in upholding the government’s universal free education policy by issuing a directive to all schools in the district to cease charging any form of fees promptly.
Chairperson Lokol, in a public announcement, expressed deep concern over the persistent issue of schools in the district imposing various fees on students. These fees range from examination fees to firewood fees, boarding fees, uniform fees, and even the unreasonable request for primary children to provide reams of paper. Such practices not only go against moral standards but also infringe upon the fundamental right of children to access education without financial barriers.
In order to ensure strict compliance with this directive, Chairperson Lokol has officially communicated with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) to closely monitor the situation and take necessary measures against any school found violating the directive.
He has issued a stern warning that government grants and funds will be withheld from schools that persist in charging fees against the policy.
Lokol also made a heartfelt appeal to the entire community to rally behind this initiative aimed at guaranteeing every child in Nabilatuk District the opportunity to receive a quality education without any form of discrimination.
By fostering a supportive environment, the district can truly ensure that education becomes a right accessible to all, irrespective of social or economic backgrounds.
