Kotido, Uganda – Nakere Rural Women Activists (NARWOA), in partnership with Peace Centre and funded by the Global Fund, today launched a four-day community dialogue and sensitization training on Farmer-Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) in Kotido District.
The training, held in Panyangara and Kotido sub-counties, aims to promote climate-resilient farming practices, improve livelihoods, and enhance environmental conservation among local communities.
“NARWOA is committed to empowering rural women and communities to adapt to climate change,” said Anero Florence The NARWOA project manager “FMNR is a proven approach to restoring degraded landscapes, improving agricultural productivity, and enhancing biodiversity.”
The training brings together over 100 participants, including farmers, local leaders, and extension workers. Through interactive sessions, participants will learn about:
1. FMNR principles and practices
2. Climate-smart agriculture techniques
3. Soil conservation and water management
4. Community-led natural resource management.
The Global Fund’s support has enabled NARWOA and Peace Centre to scale up FMNR efforts in Kotido District, benefiting over 1,000 households.
“This training is a crucial step towards building resilient communities. We look forward to adopting FMNR practices and improving our livelihoods,” said Lomongo Grace, local farmer participant.
The four-day training concludes next wednesday 24th 2024. NARWOA and Peace Centre will continue to provide technical support and monitoring to ensure the long-term success of FMNR initiatives in Kotido District.
