In a bold declaration, Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party president Jimmy Michael Akena has vowed to become the next President of Uganda in the 2026 general elections. Speaking to a large gathering at Ochero Town Council in Kaberamaido District on Saturday, November 23, Akena, the son of former President Milton Obote, expressed his determination to bring transformative leadership to the country.
“Enough is enough. We are going to have a serious conversation about the future of Uganda. We will not be intimidated or threatened. Nothing will stop me from pursuing my dream of leading the people of Uganda,” Akena stated emphatically, drawing cheers from the crowd.
The aspiring Woman Member of Parliament for Kaberamaido District, Joyce Akeloi, also rallied support for Akena and UPC candidates at all levels. She urged the people of Kaberamaido to vote for UPC flagbearers, promising better service delivery. Akeloi criticized current leadership in the district for failing to address the needs of the people and pledged to champion poverty alleviation programs, including the formation of women’s groups to empower households economically.
Akena’s campaign trail extended to Amolatar District, where Geoffrey Ocen Kiring, the LC5 Chairperson, handed over three ambulances to government health facilities. The ambulances, valued at approximately UGX 450 million, were purchased with financial support from Kiring’s friends. They will be stationed at Awonangiro, Anamway, and Arwotcek Health Center IIIs to ensure improved emergency referrals and specialized care, particularly for mothers and children.
At the events held across three locations in Amolatar District, Akena introduced Kiring as the UPC flagbearer for Kioga North Constituency in the 2026 elections. Akena, who served as the chief guest, emphasized the need for effective leadership, vowing to prioritize development and unity under the UPC’s vision.
The UPC president’s determination and vision for Uganda have ignited renewed enthusiasm within the party as they prepare for the upcoming elections, aiming to restore the party’s legacy under his leadership.
