Dokolo District – Leaders from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat have called on the people of Lango sub-region to support the ruling party in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the need to give the government a new mandate to complete ongoing projects. The plea was made during a mobilization tour in Dokolo District, led by Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairman.
The NRM team, while assessing the implementation of key government programs such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, and road construction, highlighted the progress of the Fisheries Protection Unit (FPU) and other initiatives in the region. Dr. Tanga Odoi, impressed by the progress, assured residents that ongoing projects would continue uninterrupted if President Museveni is re-elected.
“The government has launched several new projects in this area, and I can assure you that much more will be accomplished if President Museveni is given another mandate,” Dr. Tanga said.
Addressing the tensions between the army and fishermen on Lake Kyoga, Dr. Tanga urged both sides to cooperate in order to combat illegal fishing practices. “We all agreed that fishing should be regulated because substandard nets and gear are depleting the lake,” he explained to the locals.
Hon. Emmanuel Dombo, the NRM Director for Communication, praised the people of Dokolo for openly discussing both the achievements and challenges facing the region. He emphasized the importance of public input in shaping government projects, adding that the NRM leadership would return with technical experts to address ongoing concerns.
“The population is happy, and we are equally pleased with the reports we’ve received. We will come back with the technical teams to provide more detailed explanations on the progress of government projects,” Mr. Dombo said.
During the tour, Dokolo Resident District Commissioner, Barbara Akech, requested the NRM Secretariat to prioritize cattle compensation and the extension of electricity to rural areas.
Additionally, Dokolo District Chairman, Mr. James Otoo Apili, appealed to the government to construct more classroom blocks to accommodate the growing number of pupils.
“Every child deserves to learn in a conducive environment if they are to compete with those in urban areas,” Otoo emphasized.
