KAMPALA: The somber atmosphere enveloped the NRM Party Headquarters at Plot 10, Kyadondo Road, Nakasero, as the casket bearing the remains of Hon. Aleper Simon Peter, the NRM Vice Chairperson for Karamoja, was received. The Secretary General and members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) were present to pay their respects to the late leader, who tragically lost his life in a car crash earlier this week.
Hon. Aleper Simon Peter, a prominent and vibrant political figure, was revered for his dedication to the socio-economic transformation of the Karamoja sub-region. His sudden demise has left a significant void in both the NRM and the wider community he served so diligently. The late Hon. Aleper’s contributions to peace and security in Karamoja have been widely acknowledged, and his loss is deeply felt by many.
H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who also serves as the NRM National Chairman, is expected to arrive at the Secretariat to pay his last respects to the fallen senior leader. President Museveni, recognizing Hon. Aleper’s invaluable contributions, has accorded him an official burial as a testament to his service to the nation and the party.
Hon. Aleper was also the former Moroto Municipality Member of Parliament and played a significant role as a member of the NRM’s Central Executive Committee. His leadership and efforts in community mobilization and developmental initiatives have left a lasting impact on Karamoja and beyond.
The arrival of Hon. Aleper’s casket follows a series of tributes and condolences from various leaders and community members. Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo recently paid homage to Hon. Aleper during a special Parliament session, praising him as a community mobilizer and an agent of the NRM’s socio-economic transformation agenda.
As the preparations for the official burial proceed, the NRM and the nation at large continue to mourn the loss of a dedicated and transformative leader. Hon. Aleper Simon Peter’s legacy will be remembered for his commitment to the development and betterment of Karamoja and Uganda.
The official burial is scheduled for Tuesday, July 30th, 2024, at Hon. Aleper’s ancestral home in Moroto district. The community, along with leaders and dignitaries, will gather to honor and celebrate the life of a man whose contributions have profoundly shaped the socio-political landscape of the region.
