The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Hon. Richard Todwong, has commended the people of Teso Sub-region for their unwavering support to the ruling party, saying their enthusiasm and turnout at rallies demonstrate the deep bond between the NRM and the citizens.
Addressing thousands of supporters during a campaign event in Bishop Kitching Collage Ngora, Todwong expressed gratitude for the massive crowds that continue to welcome the NRM across the region. He described the ongoing campaign as one of the most engaging and encouraging exercises the party has conducted in recent years.
“The campaign has been very smooth, and we are grateful for the massive turnout wherever we go,” Todwong said. “This shows the strong connection between the party and the people, who understand and believe in our message.”
He emphasized that the NRM’s enduring popularity stems from its track record in delivering peace, stability, and development across Uganda. Todwong noted that the people’s trust in President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM government remains firm because the party has consistently fulfilled its pledges despite challenges.
While acknowledging that not everything has been perfect, the Secretary General said the NRM remains committed to improving governance and service delivery both at the local and central government levels.
“We know we are not angels,” he said. “There may be errors in local or central government, but to govern is a process. We continue to learn, improve, and consolidate the gains we have made. The most important thing is that the NRM listens, corrects mistakes, and moves forward.”
Todwong also revealed that the NRM has refined its campaign and mobilization strategy to ensure more meaningful engagement with communities at the grassroots. He said the new approach focuses on empowering local structures and creating direct communication channels between party leadership and ordinary citizens.
“We learned from the past and are now using our local structures effectively,” he explained. “That is why you see this enthusiasm everywhere we go. The people see the NRM as their own party, not a distant organization.”
The Secretary General further urged party leaders and mobilizers in the region to remain united and focused on delivering the NRM’s message of peace, progress, and prosperity. He reminded them that the upcoming elections are not just about politics, but about consolidating Uganda’s stability and ensuring continued transformation.
“The NRM is a movement built on sacrifice and vision,” Todwong said. “We must continue to uphold those principles by working together, listening to the people, and addressing their needs. That is how we maintain the trust and love of Ugandans.”
His remarks were met with cheers from the crowd, many of whom expressed appreciation for the NRM’s efforts to remain close to the people. Several residents in attendance said they felt encouraged by the renewed attention to grassroots mobilization and community-based engagement.
As the NRM campaign trail moves across the eastern region, Todwong’s message of unity, humility, and service continues to energize the party’s supporters, reinforcing the NRM’s position as a people-centered political movement dedicated to sustaining Uganda’s progress.
