Kaberamaido District’s Ochero Sub-county has approved five members to the Area Land Committee during a council meeting held at the sub-county. The motion was moved by the Chairperson of the General Purpose Committee, Aimo Grace, and seconded by Akello Regina.
The following individuals were approved as Chairperson and members of the Area Land Committee for Ochero Sub-county:
– Mr. Ojutu Richard, Chairperson, from Swagere Parish
– Olobo Michael, Swagere Parish
– Amalo Alice, Swagere Parish
– Omwant Moses, Kagaa Parish
– Alabaro Margaret, Kanyalam Parish
While presiding over the council meeting, Sub-county Speaker Mr. Bernard thanked the councilors for attending the first council meeting of the 2024/2025 financial year. He also welcomed the new Senior Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Moses Enyangu. Additionally, he raised concerns about the performance of mock examinations in Ochero Sub-county, noting that the sub-county has never registered a first-grade result.
Councilors demanded the State of Local Government Address, but the Speaker explained that he had not received any communication from the Sub-county Chairperson, who did not attend the meeting without prior notice. By law, the Chairperson is required to address the council every financial year to provide the status of the sub-county.
Mr. Edmond Eemu, Parish Councilor representing People with Disabilities (PWDs), expressed frustration, stating that there were important issues they needed the Chairperson to address, but he was absent when most needed.
Ms. Aimo Grace, Councilor representing PWDs, highlighted that community members are struggling to find wetlands where they can graze their animals. She also emphasized the need to map the boundaries between Ochero Town Council and Ochero Sub-county.
Ms. Ajibo Damali, District Councilor for Ochero Sub-county and Ochero Town Council, urged the newly appointed Area Land Committee members to refrain from overcharging community members for land demarcation services.
Ochero Sub-county has 13 parish councilors.
