Maracha District — Odrua Chapel, established in 1964 and now home to over 2,000 Christians in Anyivu Parish, Tara Sub-county, Maracha East Constituency, has joyfully received a new tabernacle, enhancing their capacity for worship and communion.
The acquisition of the tabernacle, a critical religious artifact, had eluded the congregation for many years due to financial constraints. Despite their best efforts, the funds needed to purchase the tabernacle were unattainable until the intervention of the area MP, Hon. Ruth Lematia Molly Ondoru. She provided the necessary 1.2 million shillings, enabling the church to finally obtain this essential item, which has been a missing piece since the chapel’s inception.
Mr. Abasiku Ronald, Project Manager for Odrua Chapel, highlighted the community’s struggles to raise the required funds. “After many unsuccessful attempts, we invited Hon. Ruth Lematia Molly Ondoru to officially hand over the tabernacle, which she generously funded,” said Abasiku.
Stephen Awia, the Catechist for Odrua Chapel, emphasized the significance of the tabernacle in their religious practices. He explained that the absence of a tabernacle had often left the congregation without Holy Communion for extended periods, sometimes up to a year. The presence of the tabernacle will now facilitate more frequent and meaningful religious ceremonies.
Hon. Ruth Lematia Molly Ondoru, who provided the funds, expressed her motivations, stating, “I did this not to popularize my name, but to serve God and support our community in their spiritual journey.” Her contribution underscores the importance of routine Holy Communion in the Christian faith, which plays a vital role in cleansing, strengthening, and deepening believers’ faith and their bond with God.
The arrival of the tabernacle marks a significant milestone for Odrua Chapel, promising to enhance the spiritual life of its members and fortify their religious practices.
