Ogwang Obura has joined journalists in Lango and Uganda at large in condemning the recent assault of three journalists by a group of UPC supporters in Oyam district. The victims, Solomon Okello of Dokolo Post, Eman Yonah Oruk of Shine FM, and Chris James Woo of Voice of Lango , were attacked by over 30 youth led by Nam Martin, an ambulance driver allegedly linked to Hon. Betty Amongi Akena.
The incident occurred during the groundbreaking ceremony for the rehabilitation of a 7.6-kilometer road in Minakulu Subcounty. The assailants accused the journalists of taking photos and promoting Hon. Santa Alum, leading to heightened tensions in the area.
Ogwang Obura’s condemnation of the attack comes as the police investigate the incident, with a case of assault registered under SD REF: 23/11/02/2025. The Uganda Human Rights Network for Journalists has also pledged to cover the medical expenses of the assaulted journalists and ensure they receive fair justice.
The attack has raised concerns over the safety of media personnel in politically charged environments. Press freedom organizations are urging authorities to ensure the culprits are held accountable, and the media fraternity in Lango and across Uganda awaits decisive action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Attempts to reach Hon Amongi were futile.
