In a move aimed at alleviating poverty and promoting economic empowerment, Patrick Ogwang Obura, a prominent figure in Oyam South, has donated 303 broilers to a widows’ group in Kamdini Sub County. The donation, which was made to the Apit Pe Nino widow group at Amati A village, is part of Obura’s broader poverty alleviation programme tailored for widows.
The 103 households that make up the Apit Pe Nino widow group each received three chickens, which they pledged to use productively to achieve their primary goals and alleviate poverty. Amongi Colline, Chairperson of the Apit Pe Nino Women’s Group, expressed her gratitude for the donation and promised that the chickens would be put to good use.
In a message delivered by Deacon Richard Ebong, Obura stated that the project is aimed at poverty eradication and achieving positive development. He also revealed that catechists at Loro Catholic Parish will be empowered with a similar initiative this week.
This donation is not Obura’s first, as he has previously contributed over 1,500 chickens to catechists at Minakulu Catholic Parish, as well as members of the Kamdini Blockers and Leaders Association. Obura’s commitment to empowering local communities goes beyond poultry donations, as he has also led projects to enhance overall welfare in Oyam South, including drilling 10 boreholes and repairing over 100 for clean water access, constructing churches, and sponsoring children at school for underprivileged children.
Obura’s efforts have been hailed as a significant milestone in his initiatives to empower widows and other vulnerable groups in Oyam South. His dedication to community development and poverty alleviation has earned him recognition and appreciation from the communities he has served.
