Arua- The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) Coordinator for the West Nile region launched the recruitment of the Voter Protection Team on Saturday, September 28, 2024, in preparation for the 2026 general elections in Uganda.
The ONC, a body within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party, is tasked with mobilizing people to embrace government programs, encouraging them to join the NRM, and monitoring the implementation of government initiatives across Uganda.
In light of the release of the 2026 general election roadmap by Uganda’s Electoral Commission, the NRM has assigned the ONC to safeguard the votes for the NRM presidential candidate, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in the upcoming February 2026 elections.
Hon. Alema Dicky, the newly appointed ONC Coordinator for Maracha District and the Workers’ Councilor and Secretary for Social Services, expressed concerns about potential election rigging by opposition parties. He emphasized that the NRM will not allow any electoral malpractice against their party in 2026.
Ms. Irene Amiah, the West Nile Region Coordinator for ONC, revealed that they plan to recruit two vocal NRM party mobilizers per village. These individuals should have at least completed Senior Four (S.4) and be able to read and write English, ensuring they are not deceived or cheated during vote tallying in the 2026 general elections. In cases where S.4-qualified mobilizers are unavailable, candidates who dropped out of school but can read, write, and speak English will be considered, Irene added.
The recruitment exercise for the Voter Protection Team is expected to last ten days in the West Nile region.
