Gweri, Soroti – Opolot Abel, FDC’s candidate for Gweri County MP, has funded the long-awaited resumption of construction for Dokolo Parish Community Health Center. The project, stalled since 2016, had left many residents without nearby medical care, forcing them to walk nearly seven kilometers to the closest health facility.
The health center, which will also function as a Subcounty Health Center III, is a crucial addition, especially as Gweri Health Center has been elevated to Health Center IV status to serve the entire county. Community members and local leaders had previously raised funds for the project, but construction had barely advanced past the foundation.
Opolot’s funding, estimated at over 50 million UGX, marks the start of active construction, which is expected to be completed by early 2025.
His intervention has been praised by locals and leaders alike, as the facility will significantly reduce the strain on other health centers in the region and improve healthcare access for the people of Gweri County.
