A parent in Oyam district has accused the local police of mishandling a defilement case involving his 14-year-old daughter, a Primary Seven pupil at Amaji Primary School. The accused, a Kenyan businessman named Sam, allegedly defiled the minor in Kamdini Town Council.
The case was registered at Oyam Central Police Station under SD ref 31/02/01/25. Farinah Achola, who allegedly lured the minor to Luzira Lodge where the defilement occurred, was arrested and later released on police bond. However, the victim’s father, Patrick Owino, claims that the police have not been thorough in their investigation and suspects corruption.
Owino expressed concerns that money might be exchanging hands to influence the case, citing Achola’s release and the delay in apprehending Sam. He also alleged that Sam is using money to bribe police and eliminate evidence. Sam denied the defilement allegations but admitted to hiding after the girl’s stepmother informed him that he was wanted.
Oyam District Police Commander SP Job Mutegeki countered Owino’s allegations, stating that investigations revealed the defilement claims were fabricated. According to Mutegeki, the girl was friendly with the suspect, and the allegations were concocted. He also denied claims of police bribery, emphasizing that every situation is subject to investigation to prevent innocent people from being jailed.
Mutegeki stated that the girl’s parents opened the case on the 8th, and investigations found that the matter was just set up. He added that the suspect was released on police bond, and the Somali suspect has never been arrested. The case is still under investigation.
