A golden opportunity has emerged for 11 students in Oyam District, thanks to the initiative of Woman MP Santa Alum Ogwang. During the belated Women’s Day celebration for Iceme Sub County and Iceme Town Council, MP Alum announced bursaries for 11 students—orphans and children from low-income families—who will now study in schools within Oyam District.
Alum emphasized the importance of education as a pathway to a brighter future, sharing her own story of rising from a low-income background to become an MP and part of a family with three doctors.
Patrick Ojok Agwe, headteacher of Iceme Town Seed Secondary School, praised MP Alum’s initiative, noting that many of the beneficiaries had dropped out of school before receiving the scholarships. However, Agwe highlighted challenges faced by the school, including insufficient facilities and learning materials.
Linda Abwot, one of the scholarship recipients, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating that it has reignited her dream of completing her studies and becoming a Member of Parliament. She urged MP Alum to extend similar support to other students, especially orphans.
The scholarships come as a timely intervention, amid concerns about the current leadership’s focus on short-term projects rather than sustainable initiatives in education, health, and agriculture.
