Pakwach — In a move towards ensuring transparency and fairness in the Parish Development Model (PDM), the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Pakwach Mr Eseru Paul, along with the Operative, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Incharge Lands, and the Local Council 3 (LC3) of Alwii, refunded 1.6 million Ugandan Shillings to 50 PDM beneficiaries of Faluonga Parish.
The refunded amount had been improperly collected by the Sacco leaders, far exceeding the stipulated contribution of 5000/= per beneficiary. This act of restitution is part of ongoing efforts to address and rectify instances of financial misconduct within the PDM framework.
The Parish Development Model, aimed at improving livelihoods and reducing poverty at the grassroots level, relies heavily on the integrity and accountability of local Sacco leaders. The recent incident underscores the importance of vigilance against exploitation and the need for strict adherence to the guidelines set forth by the PDM.
“We warn all Sacco leaders to desist from extorting money from PDM beneficiaries because it is criminal!” emphasized the RDC. The majority of beneficiaries expressed their excitement and relief, as the refund restored their trust in the system.
Okello Bruno, a local beneficiary, remarked, “This refund is a testament to our leaders’ commitment to justice and transparency in the PDM.”
This development serves as a reminder of the importance of community oversight in the successful implementation of development initiatives.
