President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s Parish Development Model (PDM) has yielded remarkable results, revolutionizing rural communities by transitioning them from subsistence-based livelihoods to diversified, cash-based economic activities.
During his nationwide PDM performance assessment tour in Busoga Sub-Region, the President paid a visit to Mr. Mukasa Eliot, a PDM farmer in Luuka district, whose success story epitomizes the program’s impact.
Mr. Mukasa received Shs. 1 million in the first phase of 2022/2023 and ventured into commercial farming, specializing in passion fruits and vegetables. He subsequently expanded his enterprise to include livestock and made improvements to his home using iron sheets. President Museveni, impressed by Mukasa’s progress, presented him with an additional Shs. 10 million to further support his endeavors.
“I’m delighted to witness people awakening to the vast opportunities available to them,” President Museveni remarked, emphasizing the PDM’s transformative impact on rural communities. He noted that the program seeks to transition individuals from subsistence farming and informal economy practices to a more integrated and formalized participation in the monetary economy.
