Kampala – The Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, has moved a motion for a Resolution of Parliament to pay tribute to the Late Pope Francis, the Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church, for his selfless and dedicated service to the Catholic Church and humanity.
According to the Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business, the Late Pope Francis, during his visit to Uganda in 2015, encouraged Ugandans to reach out to those in need, cooperate with others, and build a more just society that promotes human dignity, defends God’s gift of life, and protects the wonders of nature. “He has, over the years, promoted love, harmony, and humility, among others. Indeed, the Holy Father began his papacy with a message of peace,” Nabbanja emphasized.
The Prime Minister added that Late Pope Francis demonstrated genuine care and concern for individuals from all walks of life, fostering trust and connections with others. “He was always on the side of the discarded, those whom no one looked upon,” she noted.
Rt. Hon. Nabbanja applauded the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, for according this remarkable leader special recognition through consideration of this motion. She also thanked the Speaker and her delegation for attending the burial of the Late Holy Father at the Vatican.
After seconding the motion overwhelmingly, Members of Parliament paid tribute to Late Pope Francis, describing him as unique and simple in his acts, and commended his efforts in championing the protection of the environment.
