The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has issued a strong condemnation of recent comments made by National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, regarding President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. In a press release on Tuesday, PLU officials expressed their dismay over remarks Kyagulanyi made during a rally in Soroti City on November 9, 2024, where he allegedly insulted both the Ugandan President and Gen. Muhoozi, the Chairman of PLU.
The press release highlighted a specific comment by Kyagulanyi in which he referred to the people of Teso, including those in Soroti, as “stupid” like President Museveni’s son, and described them as “slaves.” This, according to PLU, was an attack not only on the people of Teso but also on Gen. Muhoozi, whose contributions to Uganda’s security and peace efforts they consider invaluable.
In response, PLU issued a formal demand for an apology from Kyagulanyi, stating that his remarks were deeply unpatriotic, divisive, and offensive to Ugandans who hold both President Museveni and Gen. Muhoozi in high regard. The release emphasized that neither Gen. Muhoozi nor the people of Uganda could be described as “slaves,” and that Muhoozi’s military career, which spans critical peacekeeping operations in Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Northern Uganda, demonstrated his dedication to securing both Uganda and the broader African region.
“The Patriotic League categorically rejects these statements and demands that Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi apologizes to President Museveni, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and the people of Uganda,” the statement read. “Ugandans are no longer interested in politics of division, name-calling, or lies. We demand respect for our leaders and for the people who have sacrificed to bring peace and stability to this country.”
The PLU also took the opportunity to commend Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for his continued composure and dedication to his duties, acknowledging his role in both national defense and his contributions to Uganda’s socio-economic progress.
The release concluded by thanking Ugandans who continue to support the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and PLU’s vision of unity and progress, while urging citizens to reject politics of blackmail and divisiveness.
