Kotido, Uganda – The highly anticipated Peace Cup tournament, sponsored by Hon. Aleper Margaret Aachilla, Women MP, came to a thrilling conclusion today. The inter-county tournament, featuring teams from Longaroe, Mmaru, and Rengen, was a resounding success, promoting peace, love, and unity among the participating communities.
The final match, played between Longaroe and Rengen, was a nail-biting encounter that saw Longaroe emerge victorious with a 3-1 scoreline. Despite conceding a red card in the 78th minute, Longaroe’s determination and teamwork paid off, earning them the coveted Peace Cup title.
In a post-match interview, Kapel Jonathan, team captain of Rengen, acknowledged that his team had played well, but mistakes in substitution had cost them the game. He expressed his gratitude to the organizers and promised that his team would return stronger next season.
Lotyan Daniel, manager of Rengen, attributed his team’s loss to pressure, but praised his players for their hard work and dedication. He encouraged the MP to continue supporting youth groups and promoting peace through sports.
Aca Gabriel, who received a red card during the match, appealed to the MP to continue organizing such tournaments, emphasizing their importance in promoting peace and unity among the communities.
Lokure Isaac, captain of Longaroe, praised his team’s resilience and determination, which had enabled them to overcome the challenge of playing with a red card. He thanked the MP and the organizers for their support and encouragement.
Hon. Aleper Margaret Aachilla, Women MP, congratulated both teams on their outstanding performance and praised the players, coaches, and fans for their sportsmanship and enthusiasm. She emphasized that the Peace Cup tournament was not just about winning or losing, but about promoting peace, love, and unity among the communities.
“This tournament is for peace, and we are trying to promote peace through sports,” she said. “Football is a sport that promotes peace, love, and unity. It brings people together, creates friendships, and fosters a sense of community.”
The MP announced that she would continue to support education and sports development in the region, citing her commitment to providing bursaries, scholastic materials, and supporting saving groups. She pledged to bring mattresses for all senior one students who pass in Division 1 in Kotido.
The Peace Cup tournament was a resounding success, attracting large crowds of enthusiastic fans who cheered on their teams with passion and dedication. The tournament was a testament to the power of sports to bring people together and promote peace, love, and unity.
