Parents and staff of Kangodo Primary School in Ocaapa Town council, Serere district have applauded Platinum Microfinance Ltd for constructing a modern facility for their pupils after they had been confined in a poor structure for a longer time.
Kangodo Primary School was established by the community of Kangodo parish way back in 2012 after facing challenges of inadequate education services for the overwhelming population of their children, however government has not fully absorbed the school as community continues struggling to provide the teaching materials and structures.
Edward Acila the School head teacher said that eight teachers out of 9 running the school are paid by government, but the school remains grappling with no permanent structures, staff quarters and the teaching materials.
Acila was grateful to Platinum Credit as a company for coming into rescue by raising a three class room modern facility for the school.
“For a longer time now, our children from P.3 to P.7 have been attending classes from very dilapidated structures earlier on raised by community as we have been so worried, some parents have been transferring their children to other schools due to such conditions and we couldn’t do anything.” he said.
Inaddition “Those from P.1 and P.2 have been studying under the trees, their classes come to end whenever the rains threaten to fall.”
The School has only one semi – permanent structure that community raised, plus two ramshackle structure made ode of grass to shelter the pupils.
The modern structure raised by Platinum Credit Ltd has changed the face of the school, parents confess that the facility is now the only pride of their community.
Albert Abaasa the Platinum Credit Managing Director said that the development is part of their Corporate Social Responsibility and the company’s commitment to invest in Sustainable programs that will impact communities.
He challenged parents and guardians to commit to educating their children by providing basic needs.
Helen Adoa the State Minister for Lakes and fisheries, also the Woman Member of Parliament for Serere District in her comment acknowledged the challenges drugging down education in her district. She however asked government to focus on constructing classes in schools so as to reverse the situation.
According to the headteacher Acila, the Kangodo P/s has the total enrollment of 489 Pupils, however due to frequent absenteeism, only 333 report to school, meaning that approximately 150 pupils go absent on daily basis.
