- FATAL ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN TEREGO DISTRICT
Location: Owafa, along Arua-Yumbe Road, Tergo District
The Uganda Police Force wishes to inform the public about a tragic road traffic accident that occurred on Monday, 25th November 2024, at approximately 6:00 PM.
A black Fuso Fighter motor vehicle, registration number UBA 895X, lost control while descending Tooth Can Loss Hill in Tergo District due to suspected brake failure. The vehicle overturned, resulting in the unfortunate loss of one life and injuries to eight other passengers.
Deceased: Ms. Oniru Jane, a 60-year-old resident of Bileafe, Terego District. Her body has been conveyed to Arua Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Injured: Eight individuals sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention.
Upon receiving the report at 6:40 PM, officers led by the District Police Commander (DPC) and the Officer in Charge (OC) Traffic promptly visited the scene. A sketch plan was drawn, and the vehicle remains at the site awaiting breakdown services and inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).
Efforts are ongoing to trace the driver, who is currently at large, and a case of Fatal Road Traffic Accident has been opened under reference number TGO TAR 42/2024.
Initial findings suggest the crash was caused by mechanical failure, specifically brake failure.
The Uganda Police Force extends its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and wishes a quick recovery to the injured. Investigations are ongoing, and the public will be updated on any developments.
