Police in the Elgon region have successfully recovered the AK-47 rifle that went missing on April 10th, 2024, in Lushya sub-county, Bulambuli district.

The Regional Police Commander of Elgon, Senior Superintendent of Police Otim Bosco, disclosed that the police closely collaborated with the community to ensure the firearm was returned to its rightful owner.

The stolen rifle was handed over to the DISO by residents on April 23rd, 2024, as revealed by Senior Superintendent of Police Otim Bosco.

The RPC went ahead to ask the public to be vigilant in their communities so that they can report wrong people to the police whom they suspect to be having rifles or dangerous weapons in their homes.

The stolen firearm was signed for by Henry Mangusho and supervised by Sergeant Weere Wilson, the Officer in Charge of Lushya Police Station in Lushya sub-county.

Police Commander of the Elgon region, Otim Bosco, commended the residents of Lushya for their efforts in assisting the police to recover the firearm.

“Thank the Almighty God that the recovered rifle did not cause any harm during the period it was in the wrong hands,” said Bosco.

However, the police spokesperson, Taitika Rogers, first appreciated the residents of Lushya for the good collaboration which resulted in the rifle’s recovery.

Superintendent of Police Taitika Rogers revealed that by the time the rifle was stolen, it had 30 bullets, and all were untouched.

Taitika revealed that the lives of the residents and police were in danger since the rifle was in the wrong hands.

Elgon Police spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Taitika Rogers, revealed that three police officers are currently in custody, including Sgt. Weere Wilson, who was the supervisor, and Henry Mangusho, who signed for the gun, awaiting the completion of their files before being taken to court.
