Albert Tugume, a brother to Kampala’s Deputy Lord Mayor, Doreen Nyanjura, was tragically shot dead by gunmen on November 21, 2024. The 33-year-old was attacked at his mobile money and agent banking shop along Ntinda Kiwatule Road. The assailants, who escaped on a waiting motorcycle, shot Tugume three times, making away with cash, mobile agent lines, and banking equipment. Attempts by a boda boda rider, Barnabas, to save Tugume were met with violence, leaving Barnabas hospitalized at Mulago Hospital with injuries.
This tragic incident has left the family and community in mourning, with many questioning the rising insecurity in Kampala. Prayers in memory of Tugume will be held today, Friday, November 22, 2024, at 2:00 PM at St. Luke Church in Ntinda, where friends, family, and the community will gather to honor his life.
Authorities continue to investigate, and the public is urged to provide any information that might aid in identifying the gunmen.
