President Yoweri Museveni bade farewell to President Faustin-Archange Touadéra of the Central African Republic, concluding a three-day state visit to Uganda. The farewell ceremony took place at Entebbe International Airport, where President Touadéra was seen off at 12:50 pm by Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, representing President Museveni.
Among those present were Deputy Inspector General of Police James Ochaya, Air Force Commander Maj. Gen. Charles Okidi, Defence Minister Oboth Oboth, and Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons Robert Munanura.
During the visit, President Touadéra joined President Museveni in Uganda’s 62nd Independence Day celebrations in Busia District, located approximately 200 km east of Kampala. The two leaders held discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation, promoting peace, and fostering the exploitation of natural resources in both nations. A key area of focus was the disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration of former members of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).
This rebel group caused havoc in northern Uganda for over two decades before fleeing to the jungles of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic. Although many LRA leaders have been indicted by the International Criminal Court, their infamous leader, Joseph Kony, remains elusive.
Vice President Alupo lauded President Touadéra’s official visit, describing it as a signal to the spirit of Pan-Africanism, highlighting the importance of African unity and cooperation in addressing common challenges.
